Ulpotha – A kitchen in paradise

A couple of years ago I had the privilege to design Ulpotha – A Kitchen in Paradise, a recipe and photographic book celebrating the small traditional village nestled in Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle.

Carina Cooper (Author of Notting Hill cook book, and After work cook book) has taken Sri Lankan recipes cooked in the village and interpreted them to be cooked in the west. Ingrid Rasmussen (photographer of ‘New London Style’, ‘Ibiza Style’ and ‘New Country Style’) has brought her refreshing eye to photograph the delicious food whilst also capturing the villagers at ‘leisure, pleasure and rest’ which is the credo for Ulpotha.

Ulpotha is collectively managed by the villagers themselves and is operated on a not-for-profit basis. All funds generated from guest visits are invested back into the village and to finance the free Ayurveda clinic run for the benefit of surrounding villages.
